Any owner builders out there? cosidering giving it a go any advice to save $$$ would be great!?

How big a project do you have in mind? ... What experience do you have in the building trade and organisation field?... Have you managed and organised trades before?....

Ask yourself.... do I have difficulty in getting my car serviced and rego checked, can I return a meal at a restaurant I disliked or clothing I bought that was the incorrect size etc...

Can I speak my mind and also make up my mind , for if you cannot do any of these then I suggest you leave it to the proffessionals..... Most owner builders without prior knowledge of the building trades, do NOT save money, they waste it.....With the right knowledge and skills money can be saved.....Rule ONE: ignore the rubbish you see on DIY shows... they are into selling you the '; HIPE '; and the materials and gear they use is not CHEAP....

Materials can be obtained from trade outlets if you approach them correctly, also auctions are good, but only if you research item costs before you go to them.. and set yourself a limit...

Paint ... for instance can be purchased for a great discount if you buy ';mis tints) at trade outlets and can mix and match like a proffessional....colors can be changed if you know how!!!.....e.g:...recent new paint for full interior house worth over $2,500. bought for little over $300. ......... T%26amp;G hardwood flooring usually $3.80 per meter .... bought at auction for $1.50 per meter a saving of over $4,000. ........

My advice: - If you have real doubts... stay away from trouble, the next best thing is to hire an experienced builder, making sure he is licenced and insured, then negotiate a fee or hourly rate that is acceptable to both of you...To oversee the total work and trades for you.... This way you get the advantage of control, change, cost and which tradesmen are used or not.... You can learn as you go and will be better equipt for your next attempt... or not..

Keep in mind... there are NO friends in business.... relying on friends for assistance... especially on the cheap or for favour usually ends in frustration and or disaster.....

Do not be confused or distracted.... A positive attitude and determination is definitely required....

Hope this is usefull to you....
