get a foot on the door
by getting a bar back position or waiter, then get to know the bartenders and keep a close eye in how is it that the bar is work, learn the drinks and also get to know the clientele if is a local bar/restaurant. Then work hard and express after you have prove that you are a hard worker, your interest of being a bartender. If at that particular place they won't hire a guy, learn as much as you can about the ropes and then with that experience move on to a better place.I want to be a bartender, advice?
call 1-800-bartend... no kidding they will school you in bartending. and its only like a couple of weeks long.
My advice would be to look for upscale places like country clubs. I think the worst for you being a guy is to be in a dance club place. You need high end places. The country clubs and nicer restaurants I've been to here in CA, the bartenders are always guys. In fact, as a female I've had a hard time getting a bartending gig because I'm female. Then again, I don't want to have to wear slinky sexy stuff to get people to buy booze.
But seriously, look for ads in the paper for country clubs, hotels, stuff like that.
Work at a gay bar.....
