I'm glad you take such an interest in the great sport of tennis. I am ranked number one on my high school varsity tennis team and trust me, I did not get there without any practice. You just have to practice. Simple as that. Take lessons and play matches with other people. First, learn to keep the ball in play for a long time. After you can do this, then start hitting harder and develop a serve. After this, you can start adding things to your game such as volley, slices, etc. The best advice I can give you though, is don't get discouraged because it is not something that happens over night. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, and PRACTICE and you will improve!
Hope this helped :)Any advice on how to be a GREAT tennis player in my high school team!?
Find an old brick church building. Take a few balls with you and keep hitting the wall over and over again. You will learn through quick repetition and quick reactions how to be consistent and hit the ball straight ahead. This is what I did to make the high school team and I never played before!

ok well go to www.tennis.com then go under the instruction section, that has a lot to help, but i think there more advanced. So maybe try tennis.about.com First.
Search how to hit a topspin forehand on google or youtube. Then follow that and practice the stroke. You dont need to play tennis to practice the stroke. Make sure you use the right grip and everything. Do the same for backhand. Just learn all the form. Maybe even try to learn the serve form too.
The first guy is correct. You need to practice so you'll have consistency and can develop power. While you're doing that, watch tennis matches from the pro, you can learn some tricks in there. (Or watch local tennis matches, whichever you like best.)
Easy........ DOnt SUCK
