I had a vaginal delivery with my first daughter, but need to have c-section with my current baby girl. (She is breech and there is no room for her to turn.) Any advice about pain meds during and after the section? What worked for you? What didn't? How was the ';spinal?'; How was your recovery?Any advice for a mom-to-be who is about to have a c-section?
The doctor's will go over everything with you prior to surgery. The spinal was not that bad, but make sure you follow their directions to the letter. Do not eat anything 12 hours before surgery. As far as pain meds go, they will do the spinal during the surgery and then most likely give you pills for pain later. What kind depends on the amount of pain and what your doctor finds appropriate, as well as whether or not you will be breastfeeding. The recovery lasts a little longer than a vaginal recover but the doctors and nurses will tell you exactly what you need to do to have a full recovery. Good luck and best wishes!Any advice for a mom-to-be who is about to have a c-section?
I had 40 hours of labor and then an emergency c-section. Truthfully, it was great. I didnt feel a thing until the next day. I will be honest, you need to let others help you with everything. It is hard to go to the bathroom at first and is painful. I was on Vicadin which helped. Once I was home, I continued the meds and felt pretty good. I was sore, but tried to do too much (I figured, I dont hurt, so why not?). Big mistake!! They say dont lift anything for a couple weeks, listen to them! Just let others do everything, and follow dr's orders and you will be fine. Since I pushed it, it took me 7 weeks of being on vicadin to recover. Now 4 months later, I am still a bit sore in the incision area, but can do everything like before.
I'm not sure how soon you're having your C-section but there are ways that have proven successful to get your baby daughter to turn on her own. One of the techniques is the Webster technique. You can google it if you're interested. I'd just hate to see you have a C-section if you don't have to.
Your doctor won't let you try for a vaginal birth with a breech??
I had a section with my second...I didn't take any pain meds till the next day when i got up to walk, that was Tylenol 3's and after that i just took ibuprofen...the spinal was hell for me, it hurt and took like 4 pokes to get it in...i would probably have a c-section this time if i didnt have to go threw having a spinal..get chills just thinking about it, plus i got a spinal headache for a week afterwards, thats not fun having while your baby is crying, but everyone is different...Good Luck and once that baby is out you will relax!!! and clean your house good and do all the laundry before you go to the hospital, I'm glad i did.
I felt like I was being crucified because they strapped my arms down and I couldn't feel or move my legs then they tried to put that mask on my face and I told them no way.
I am glad that I had a c-section after hearing all of those women screaming up and down the hallways.
The spinal went fine.
Recovery time is pretty harsh though. The Hydrocodone that they put me on, after made me sick to my stomach.
Before you go into the hospital. Make sure the house is tidy.....or have some good help lined up for after your trip home. Make some meals that you can freeze and then heat (lasagna, tater tot casserole, soup, etc.). Make sure you hold your oldest a bunch because you cannot after a C-section. C-section will keep you off your feet a little longer so extra help is important.
Meds......I went home on Motrin........three every 6 to 8 hours. I really did not think the pain was that bad. It was uncomfortable but not miserable. I was pretty much back to normal after three weeks. I wore normal clothes and was up and walking normal. The healing was slow but not terrible. It took well over a year before the numbness wore off around the scare and for about that long it was tender to pressure. Other than that I cannot think of anything. I wish you the best of luck......congratulations.
I had a c-section with my daughter. I didn't find the spinal painful at all, likely becasue I was having a contraction as they did it. I just took tylenol with codeine (I didn't breastfeed)when I was done, I didn't need the pain meds for too long though. I was back to myself (kind of) in about 3 or 4 weeks, it still hurt to get in and out of bed though.
just wanted to congradulate u on the new coming baby
good luck
dr will discuss everything u need to know about the c-section before u r to have it
I had a c-section , I could not feel the spinal much, it was a poke , as if someone scratched my back, it was nothing! I was on morphine for 2 days and after that I was on the occasional tylenol (reg strength) it's not as bad as you'd think, what sucked (for me) was having the nurses change my sanitary pad due to not being able to move my legs! But if you've been through child bearing before, even vaginal.. you would know that it's all about '; Leaving your dignity at the door'; lol!
While on the operating table, I said '; I will SO do this again'; which is a line rarely heard from a woman after having 52+ hours of labour!!!
I'll definitely have another one.. surgeries are nerve racking, but it was all in all fine.. plus you get the end result of a baby , which is amazing! Mine is 1 1/2 and my scar is very faded .. just kind of hard to shave around but no big deal :)
